Originally, the phrase To break some eggs is a pun of the following expressions:

>> One does not make an omelette withouth breaking eggs [proverb].
>> You have got to crack a few eggs to make an omelette.
>> You wanna an omelette, you gotta break some eggs.

Meanings:
(1) To face the hardships in order to achieve something, but facing temporary pain and discomfort at the same time.
(2) To give up something else in order to get something good or useful.

Since the language is always changing, there are also other connotations.
One of them is related to the fact that something is up to someone only.

Example:

Go! Break some eggs, guys!:

>> Vão! Agora é com vocês, caras!
>> Vão! Botem pra quebrar, rapazes!
>> Vão! Mostrem quem manda (aqui / no pedaço), caras!
>> É isso aí! Arrebentem, rapazes!
>> É isso aí! Manda a ver, caras!
