His door stood open to the morning. - Tradução em português

Gostaria de saber o sentido da frase abaixo, em negrito, pois o uso do to me deixou confuso.

The news of the crown came to the little, dark offices of the pearl buyers.
...
A fat, slow man sat in an office waiting. His face was kind, and his eyes were friendly. His door stood open to the morning. He sang softly to himself and looked out the door.

Apesar dessa minha interpretação lúcida sobre o momento apontado, a forma como o livro expressou isso "open to the morning" me deixou confuso.

Your guess makes a whale of sense, Alberto. I think they got there so early to the point of waiting the sun enter (here my imagery personifying the sun, as the first "person" or the first before the first customer (preferably the "long-expected one" you have mentioned).
That also fits the RedSea answer, since by the time of the opening (and opening the doors early) allowed the first sunbeams in the morning to come in.
