As they were leaving the early church service - Tradução em português

On that fine morning, a box was left at the main doors of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame. As they were leaving the early church service, two old women looked inside the box.

Seguem algumas alternativas:

A- Como elas estavam saindo do serviço da igreja mais cedo (largando mais cedo do que o habitual);
B- Como elas estavam saindo primeiro do serviço da igreja (antes das outras pessoas);
C- Ou "early church" foi uma palavra usada pra designar "aquela igreja, muitos anos atrás";
D- Uma outra resposta.

> The early church service >

"As they were leaving the early church service...(something happened)"

I would go for "a primeira missa" (certamente a primeira missa/o primeiro serviço religioso do dia).
In the Thesaurus the "early" has that meaning of "first" (in the sense of ahead in position or time), here in the sense of "in position" (the first Mass of the day).

Tradução:
Minha escolha seria "a primeira missa" (certamente a primeira missa/o primeiro serviço religioso do dia).

A- Como elas estavam saindo do serviço da igreja mais cedo (largando mais cedo do que o habitual);
[[ não seria o caso em minha opinião.]]

B- Como elas estavam saindo primeiro do serviço da igreja (antes das outras pessoas);

C- Ou "early church" foi uma palavra usada pra designar "aquela igreja, muitos anos atrás";
[[Definitivamente "no".]]

D- Uma outra resposta.
[[Minha resposta seria essa. Letra D.]]

Hahah...

> As they were leaving the service of the early church;
> As they were leaving the early service;
> As they were leaving the early church;
> As they were leaving the early service of the church.

Redseahorse has a point, granted that it could be that EARLY referred to church or to the service, I still would choose "the service".
Why is that? I am going to explain afterwards. First of all, I will make some related comments.

"Early church" in the sense of old (time) church, the first churchgoes of old, etc, is more often than not used to talk about history, past events. So we get hits like "A Look at the Early Church/The history of early Christianity" and so on, related to historical events related to the churches.

Church service:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_service
http://standrews-petrolia.ca/what-a-chu ... e-is-like/
https://www.puritanboard.com/threads/wh ... ike.55751/

The let´s go to our two meanings - along with the respective examples (that could make confusion and throw us off tracks...)
Church Early Service (the service as it was in the old times, when the church was in its infant days):
https://books.google.com.br/books?id=eL ... 22&f=false
The Letters to the Corinthians
By William Barclay
"There was obviously a flexibility about the order of the service in the early Church...the really notable thing about an early church service must have been that almost everyone came feeling the privilege and the obligation of contributing something to it."

But we can found way more times in the following sense (that of first service of the day, or the service for the "early raisers") :
http://www.firstpcrichmond.org/early_service.htm
From the site information Worship "Early in the Morning" at 8.15 a.m
Traditional Worship at 10:30 a.m.
"Early in the Morning" is our alternative to traditional sanctuary worship."

And more often than not, related to Sunday service:
https://community.ricksteves.com/travel ... -in-fussen
We would like to attend an early Sunday morning service on Easter in Fussen.
... We want to attend an early service (maybe 8:00 am) in Fussen or somewhere near as we start to drive towards Vienna. Thanks!

That is the case (of a Sunday service here), where would I get that from? Where would I confirm that?
From the very Victor Hugo writing, since the writer go on like this:
Ten years after their first Sunday togheter (implicit - after that Sunday of the early Sunday Service, or Early Church Service of that Sunday if you wish) when Quasimodo was fourteen.
We can also deduce that he was four years old when he was found in that box.

So, in this case, from the writing focus, my thinking is that it´s not about the age of the church, but for some time, all about the service (along with the church and the priest) is where the story revolves around. In the beggining I mean.

Good afternoon, Albert Rocha.

Early is an adjective and an adverb.

A - In the following examples, early is an adjective. Look at the possible translations:

(1) As they were leaving the early church service, two old women looked inside the box. = 1st translation and 2nd translation.
(2) As they were leaving the service of the early church, two old women looked inside the box. = 1st translation.
(3) As they were leaving the early service of the church, two old women looked inside the box. = 2nd translation.

In the first example, we realize the word early is an adjective related to the church or to the (church) service.

The term "igreja primitiva" is quite old. The translation "igreja primitiva" could be inserted if you had to translate something related to religion or Hystory.

So, the common interpretation is related to the period of the day (early mornings - morning - afternoon - evening - night).

B - As an adverb, we have the following statement:

(1) As they were leaving the church service early, two old women looked inside the box.

1- Primeira missa = Primeira missa da manhã = Primeiro serviço religioso (Maristela e PPAULO);
2- Missa ocorrida mais cedo / Missa anterior (Redseahorse);
3- Missa da Igreja Antiga (jlmmelo);

- A alternativa (1) me parece a mais interessante, diante de todo o debate acima;

- A alternativa (2) tem bastante semelhança com a (1), visto que se a missa anterior também for a primeira, acaba dando no mesmo; No entanto, esse detalhe pode fazer mais diferença em outros contextos e essa dúvida prejudicar a interpretação;

- A alternativa (3) também tem relevância, visto que Early Church também é um termo usado para se referir a igrejas antigas;

6 26 454
Good morning, Albert.

Shall we check the difference?

Church service; service of worship = serviço liturgico; serviço religioso; serviço da igreja.

Mass (liturgy) = missa; celebração da eucaristia.

Mass often refers to the entire church service in general, but is specifically the sacrament of the Eucharist.
There are other church services like worships, prayers, ordinations, and so on.

So long,

Ricardo.
