Amigos, quando meu filho deixa a luz acesa no quarto e sai eu digo:

"Luz que se apaga é luz que não se paga".

Sei que é um ditado popular brasileiro. Saberiam me dizer se existe algo equivalente em Inglês?

While at it.
It also might come in handy someday - light switch decals (usually in yellow and letters in black) - they are placed by the switches.
They have warning wording, something like this:
STOP! Did you remember to turn off the lights?
TURN IT OFF + Conserving energy is in your hands.
SAVE ENERGY + Turn off the lights after use, (thank you).
TURN OFF LIGHT + When leaving.
CONSERVE ENERGY please turn it off.
Please switch off lights when leaving.

ENERGY SAVING REMINDER:
If you are the last to leave the room, please turn off the lights!
