Bem, há diversas maneiras de dizer isto, algumas até pouco 'republicanas' digamos assim! Abaixo, duas sugestões (com traduções iguais, mas com aplicabilidades diferentes):

I have negociated with my friend to buy a TV set, but I have gotten burnt, eventually! (caso de um pretérito recente e que tenha alguma relação com algo no presente).

I negociated with my friend to buy a TV set, but I got burnt, eventually! (caso pretérito).

I tried to work out a deal with my friend to buy a TV but in the end it didn't go my way.

I tried to negotiate the purchase of a TV with my friend but ended up not getting what I wanted, quite the opposite.

And also:
I trusted my friend and got burned/and it didn´t end well! I and my friend agreed to buy a TV for him and haven´t seen one red cent since.

It could be the case...

Correto. Mas "amigo meu" como está na pergunta, é "friend of mine", não "my friend".
