Spake suggests something that what uttered out loud, in past tense.
There´s the book title "Thus Spake Zarathustra." (Assim falou Zaratustra - de Nietzsche [lê-se Nietze])
Where "spake" is said past tense.
So, for the time being, my general translation would be "Então o brave Horácio falou" with the meaning that "Horácio falou assim - pra quem quizesse ouvir, ou de forma que se pudesse ouvir".
It´s an educated guess, though. I´ll leave to the educated in Old English now, the English of some poetry and movies depicting the old times.
Not to mention some literature written in Old English as well.
