Their little chins came to a point - Tradução em português

"Their little chins came to a point and their eyes were large and gentle."

Imagino que o texto quer falar que o queixo dos habitantes era fino, mas é isso mesmo? Não compreendi essa construção.

Como to a point would mean:
To narrow, become narrow, get narrow toward the tip, gradually decrease to a point, gradually come to a point, etc...

So, to my thinking that "as suas mandíbulas/o seu queixo afinava" would do.

By the way, it´s common to describe faces in English (novels and all that jazz...) based on the jaw, so one will find "he was square-jawed, or "he has a square jaw" (or a square-shaped face). One could have a "pointy jaw" (which is equivalent to your example) OR an inverted triangle (or hearth-shaped face if you wish).
There is also the round-shaped face (the face is aproximatelly as long as it is wide). There´s also the long shaped face, diamond-shaped one, oval faces etc. At this point you might have figured: people with the squared face is the one is described as having a jaw/jawline square as well.
