Whether it be - Tradução em português
Gostaria de saber se vocês poderiam me dar uma luz ao traduzir essa frase:
They will be late, whether it be because they left late or got stuck in traffic.
Qual a melhor tradução para "whether it be" ?
E também tem um lance de gramática nessa questão, poderiamos dizer "whether it is" ?
Valeus

Hey =) ''Eles vão se atrasar, talvez eles tenham saído tarde ou ficado presos no trânsito''
ou ''Eles vão atrasar, pode ser que tenham saído tarde ou ficado presos no trânsito''
Yeah, you may say ''Whether it is'' it's more common in everyday conversation. ''whether it be'' sounds formal and literary..
Regards!

COMO COMBINAR PALAVRAS EM INGLÊS
They will be late, whether it be because they left late or got stuck in traffic.
Minha sugestão:
Eles vão se atrasar, seja porque saíram tarde ou porque ficaram presos no trânsito.
Até mais!

Also, "they will be late, wether is because they left late or got stuck in traffic."
Many would say the sentence in the initial post, the one that originated the discussion, as a bit outdated, or at least a bit formal.
So, I agree with "OEstudantede", right when I saw the sentence it caught my eye, my thought was that was a literary-related discussion or something.

You can make the sentence less verbose by simply removing "it be" altogether. This also helps sidestep the apparent problem of formality.
"They will be late, whether because they left late or got stuck in traffic".
Paulo, I believe you meant to write "whether it is" instead of "wether is".

You guessed it right, Juliana. A case of haste makes waste (a pressa ser inimiga da perfeição), or I just lacked attention. Anyway, thanks for letting us know.
