Young man who survived human rabies is released from hospital in Recife

According to the doctors, he was the first person to be cured from rabies in Brazil. He was taken home by ambulance.

A sixteen-year-old teenager was released from a hospital in Recife on Friday. According to the doctors he is the first Brazilian person who was cured from human rabies. An ambulance from Floresta, the village where his family lives, arrived at the health unit early in the day to transport the patient.

The boy had contracted the disease after being bitten by a bat, while sleeping. He had been hospitalized in the health unit since last October and left ICU last February, after more than a hundred days of medical treatment. The boy’s father quit his job to keep his son company.

According to the press office of the hospital, he developed complications because he had not been walking, and still speaks with difficulty. He will continue to have medical attendance.

The patient is due to come back to the hospital in three weeks in order to go through a new evaluation, and is also (expected) supposed to undergo orthopedic hip surgery.

The treatment used was based on the Milwaukee Protocol, created in the United States in 2004. The hospital reports using antiviral drugs, sedatives and anesthetics in the context of this protocol.

Só uma questão de curiosidade. Vc precisa de "human rabies" como identificador de algum tipo de raiva que não emana de animal? Logo em seguida Vc a descreve simplesmente como "rabies." Sei que existe cura para raiva em humanos, e que geralmente não se morre disso...

De acordo com a assessoria de imprensa do hospital, ele teve algumas seqüelas, não está andando e fala com dificuldade, mas vai continuar tendo acompanhamento médico.

According to the hospital press office, he has had some complications; he is not walking and speaks with difficulty, but will continue to have medical attendance.

Meu original criou uma causação falsa.

Esse termo "to discharge" sugerido pelo Donay é um ótimo vocábulo digno de ser incluído no seu cotidiano de inglês, servindo muitas funções. Só para enumerar algumas:

1. To be discharged from hospital = ser liberado do hospital

To be discharged from the service = dar alta das forças armadas, aposentado, reformado

2. To be discharged from the charges = ser livrado de processo judicial

3. To discharge one´s duties / orders / mission = cumprir (executar) obrigações / ordens / encargos / missão

3. to discharge a weapon = descarregar uma arma (sentido de disparar)

Descarregar em português pode significar tanto atirar, como extrair a munição. Em inglês "discharge" fica somente com o significado de atirar, ou disparar.

Para extrair munição, utilize "to unload", mas num context claro, porque "unload" tb significa "atirar" ou "disparar":

"He carefully unloaded the weapon so as to avoid an accidental discharge."
"He unloaded on his opponent without hesitation."

Em português usamos "charge" com um significado paralelo, de carga satírica, que segue em inglês tb:

"In words charged (loaded) with satire, he condemned the opposition."
"His discharges against the opposition were pure satire."
