Uso de "collateral" em inglês
Fiquei em dúvida sobre o uso da palavra "collateral" que sim, possuí o sentido em inglês de caução, ou garantia (como de aluguel) em inglês. Porém, lembro-me de ouvir o uso desta palavra no mesmo sentido que em português. O que neste caso a faria um verdadeiro cognato neste outro sentido (contexto) como em:
Fizeram um ataque de drone e houve altíssimo dano colateral.
A drone attack was made and there was a high collateral damage.
Ou
There was a drone attack... Etc
Algo do tipo.
Isto está correto, ou incorreto?

Yes, usually it is used with the meaning of something pledged as security for repayment of a loan. It would be a guarantee, pledge, etc. Then it's a noun (substantivo).
Collateral used as adjective (adjetivo) is okay too, in the sense of "accompanying and secondary" (as per Webster definition).
Again, Webster's explains "collateral damage" as being the "injury inflicted on something other than an intended target specifically." And exemplify with the case of "civilian casualties of a military operation".
The list of "false cognates" certainly tried to point out that a learner may find it in the first sense and get puzzled by the usual Portuguese synonym.

Thank you for the complete answer. What I meant about the word being in the list is not that I think it's wrong, just to make it clear. I was doubting myself because when I tried to search and use translation to verify, it wasn't showing collateral with that role (adjective), only the noun. Since I'm writing a novel I need to double verify for these words that are easy to confuse like "realizing".
