"Hung" não pode vir acompanhado de "was"?

Em diferentes trechos do livro que estou lendo, observo que as frases "estava pendurado"/"que estava pendurado" são escritas em inglês sem o verbo "to be" precedendo:

1- It hung on a chain around his neck;
2- As he hung by his leg from a tree;
3- An old man hung there.

Dúvida: Não se usa "was hung", em inglês?

Red, I think the major problem he has is differentiating transitive vs. Intransitive uses, not the irregular past tense.

Transitive:
Active: The children hung ornaments on the Christmas tree.
Passive: The ornaments were hung on the Christmas tree by the children.

Intransitive:
The ornaments hung on the Christmas tree.

Transitive:
Active: He hung it on a chain around his neck.
Passive: It was hung on chain around his neck.

Intransitive:
It hung on a chain around his neck.

To hang has transitive and intransitive definitions. These are intransitive examples.

To be hung would be the passive voice of the transitive definition.

I see. That's the trouble here, indeed!

Sobre algo que "foi pendurado" por alguém = was hung;
