Posso empregar Wait e Await no mesmo contexto? Há diferença entre elas?

Usamos wait com um infinitivo:

I'll wait to hear from you before I do anything.

Usamos wait for antes de um objeto direto:

Please wait for me here. (Please wait me here = incorreto)

Não empregamos com orações com that, mas numa estrutura objeto + infinitivo podemos:

We'll have to wait for the photos to be ready. (... wait that the photos are ready = incorreto)

Quase sempre deixamos de empregar a preposição temporal for depois de wait:

I waited (for) a very long time for their answer.

Na maioria das vezes, empregamos formalmente o verbo transitivo await com objetos abstratos:

We're still awaiting instructions.
