Caros leitores! Recentemente recebi em casa um curso de inglês chamado Inside Out – Street Speak. Como vocês podem ver na foto abaixo, a produção do material é de excelente qualidade, o encarte em alta resolução e o CD produzido em estúdio, de forma bastante profissional. Aparentemente um material acima de qualquer suspeita.

Inside Out Street Speak é um plágio

O autor do curso entrou em contato comigo e ofereceu alguns exemplares, para que fossem sorteados entre os leitores. Tomei o cuidado de consultar a Internet e até então não havia nenhuma referência que desabonasse o curso em questão, publicada em qualquer site. Sendo assim, aproveitando os 2 anos de English Experts combinamos então de sortear 5 CDs entre os leitores e compartilhar um pouco mais de conhecimento. Entretanto após o lançamento da promoção, alguns leitores entraram em contato por email informando que o curso Inside Out – Street Speak, na verdade TRATA-SE DE UM PLÁGIO MUITO BEM FEITO DO SITE Real English.

Plágio

Inclusive o Michael, responsável pelo site Real English e detentor dos direitos autorais da obra, foi alertado do fato por leitores do EE. Logo após tomar conhecimento do fato, ele publicou uma nota em seu site explicando toda a situação, com provas incontestáveis.

In English

Dear readers, I recently received an English course at my home called “Inside Out - Street Speak”. As you can see from the picture, the art is top quality, the insert was printed in high resolution, the CD was burned in a studio - rather professionally. The material is apparently above any suspicion.

The author of the course got in touch with me and offered me some copies to be given away to some of my readers. I was cautious enough to search the web to see if there was anything posted on any website against the course. That being done, and based on over 2 years of experience since the beginning of English Experts, we decided to raffle 5 copies of the CD for the benefit of our readers. Nonetheless, after we launched the promotion, some readers e-mailed me letting me know that the course “Inside Out - Street Speak” was actually plagiarizing the website Real English.

Michael, by the way, the person in charge of Real English and owner of the copyright and trademark, was warned about the fact by EE readers. Right after he learned about it, Michael posted a message on his website explaining the facts, with irrefutable evidence.

Today I called Michael Marzio and explained the situation to him. He agreed to collaborate with EE on a future occasion, maybe with an interview. If you wish to confirm this information, please send him an e-mail (mike@real-english.com) or post on his blog (Real English Blog) - in English (or French), as he doesn’t speak Portuguese.

Grau dos Adjetivos

Olá pessoal! Hoje vamos conhecer um pouco mais sobre as regras dos adjetivos. Os adjetivos são usados para definir o substantivo, normalmente no português são usados após os substantivos, já na língua inglesa o uso é ao contrário, devemos usar os adjetivos antes do substantivo. Para compararmos pessoas, coisas, conceitos e etc., existem as formas de comparação, vejam abaixo:

Comparativo de igualdade:

Para compararmos duas coisas de forma igualitária devemos usar a expressão: (as + adjetivo + as) e em orações negativas o primeiro as pode ser substituído por so.
Ex.: She is as tall as Jane. (Ela é tão alta quanto Jane.)
Ex.: She isn’t so tall as Jane. (Ela não é tão alta quanto Jane.)

Comparativo de inferioridade:

Usamos quando queremos demonstrar a inferioridade de uma coisa em relação à outra, usamos a expressão: (less + adjetivo + than).
Ex.: Some species are less adaptable than others. (Algumas espécies são menos adaptáveis do que outras.)

Comparativo de superioridade:

Usamos para demonstrar a superioridade de alguma coisa em relação à outra. Quando o adjetivo for monossilábico usamos: (adjetivo + sufixo er + than).
Ex.: A Lion is stronger than a wolf. (Um leão é mais forte do que um lobo.)

Com adjetivos com mais de uma sílaba usamos: (more + adjetivo + than).
Ex.: Julie is more beautiful than Lana. (Julie é mais bonita do que Lana).

Superlativo:

Usamos quando queremos dar maior intensificação do adjetivo a algo. Quando o adjetivo for monossilábico usamos: (the + adjetivo + sufixo est).
Ex.: February is the shortest month of the year. (Fevereiro é o mês mais curto do ano.)

Com adjetivos de mais de uma sílaba, usamos: (the most + adjetivo).
Ex.: This is the most efficient program of all. (Este é o programa mais eficiente de todos.)

Hoje vamos falar sobre a voz passiva no inglês, pois estamos mais acostumados a usar a forma ativa e acabamos nos confundindo na hora de passar para a passiva. A forma passiva é um recurso que é utilizado para enfatizar a ação e não quem a fez. Para entender melhor a diferença veja os exemplos abaixo:

Voz ativa: Nobody recognized the woman. (Ninguém reconheceu a mulher.)
Voz passiva: The woman was not recognized. (A mulher não foi reconhecida.)

É importante sempre usar by quando mencionado o executor da ação:

Voz ativa: Susan is cooking dinner. (Susan está fazendo o jantar.)
Voz passiva: Dinner is being cooked by Susan. (O jantar está sendo feito por Susan.)

Quando passamos voz ativa para voz passiva ocorrem algumas transformações:
• O objeto da voz ativa torna-se o sujeito da voz passiva.
• O verbo to be é usado no tempo em que estiver o verbo principal na voz ativa.
• O verbo principal é sempre usado no particípio passado na voz passiva.

Voz ativa: Anyone can plant a tree. (Qualquer um pode plantar uma árvore.)
Voz passiva: A tree can be planted by anyone. (Uma árvore pode ser plantada por qualquer um.)

Observação:

Quando o agente da voz passiva não for mencionado e tivermos que passar para a voz ativa, deveremos empregar um sujeito:

Voz passiva: Those ships were destroyed. (Os navios foram destruídos.)
Voz ativa: They/Someone/Somebody destroyed those ships.
