Actively x Proactively: Como utilizar
According to this website[1], "The Texas Border Sheriff's Coalition (TBSC) has joined BlueServoSM in a public-private partnership to deploy the Virtual Community Watch, an innovative real-time surveillance program designed to empower the public to proactively participate in fighting border crime."
In the paragraph above you will notice the adverb proactively sandwiched between the preposition to and the verb participate. Would substituting the adverb proactively for the adverb actively significantly alter meaning? Mildly perhaps?
Thank you for whatever view that you might have on it.

Olá Márcio,
"Proactively" se refere a uma atitude de prontidão,iniciativa.Apesar de parecer "forçoso" este termo(proactive) anda sendo bastante usado.Acredito haver algum tipo de mudança,pelo menos na ênfase.
Boa sorte!

Márcio,
"...to proactively participate in fighting border crime."
A única diferença que vejo é a mesma que ocorreria em português: em vez de lidar com o problema qdo ele já existe (ativamente), trabalharíamos antecipadamente para evitar que ele ocorra (proativamente).

To me the word "proactive" has always sounded like mumbo-jumbo to be avoided. By definition, anything pre-active is inactive, and can't be proactive. You can't be said to have acted before you acted. (Unless all that you mean by proactive is that you're in favour (pro) of action.) But then that whole quote is mindless newspeak, don't you think? Rsrs

Thank you guys very much for expounding on it.
If alive today, William Strunk Jr., author of the manual The Elements of Style, would probably frown on it. So would Winston Churchill.
