As I don´t know what you meant specifically:

Based on the actual situation (no plural here, though.)
OR
Based on the present/current situation.

Anyway, I suppose you know already the pair actual/current (real/verdadeira vs corrente/existente).

Some would suggest to italicize "The Young Senator"; but, overall it´s okay, since you capitalized it.

Overall, your text seems very good to me, I would keep it as it is. :P
