Phrasal verbs juntos e separados: há diferença?

Tava estudando aqui, e percebi que em alguns dicionários, certos phrasal verbs têm um significado quando o verbo está junto da preposição, e outro quando o verbo está separado. Pra não ficar confuso, vou usar exemplos:

Take off something & take something off
No dicionário Cambriedge, esses dois são distintos, veja:

Take off something~
To remove or get rid of something:
He took off his shirt and shoes and jumped in the lake.
After the poisoning scare, the product was taken off the market.

&

Take something off~
To use a period of time for a purpose that is different from what a person usually does:
I’ve decided to take next semester off and travel and write.

Vou ter que decorar as duas formas desses troços? De cada phrasal?
Não conseguir crer nisso, e vim tirar a dúvida. Espero mesmo que seja algum bug no dicionário.
