It’s quite difficult to measure the right amount of time for listening in English. It varies from student to student; it may depend on your personal goal. If you want to understand English fast, you should listen to English radio, podcasts, songs, watch movies every single day …
The more you expose yourself to English, the easier will be for you to understand the language. You can get used to it quite fast if you listen to English for more than 2 hours a day. It’s not a rule. It worked for me.
After six months, I realized that my comprehension had improved significantly. You also start thinking in English naturally.
I’m not saying that reading and studying grammar are unimportant and irrelevant. On the contrary, they are equally vital. You have to combine all elements: speaking, reading, listening, writing and grammar.
It’s pertinent to mention that each person has his own way to learn a language.
