Set (hair): Como utilizar?

My mother went to the beauty parlor to have her hair set."

I read the sentence above in a book but I am not sure if this is the only way to use the verb "set" or I could say: "My mother went to the beauty parlor to set her hair

"Set" equivale a "arrumar o cabelo". Se você vai a um salão, significa que outra pessoa(e não você) arruma o cabelo, então, neste caso, o uso mais adequado seria com o "have", "have her hair set". O "have" indica que outra pessoa(e não você) fez o serviço.

Seria possível o uso perguntado(sem o "have): "my mother went to the beauty parlor to set her hair", mas acho menos provável e natural com "went to the beauty parlour".

I am going to have my house painted. I can't do it myself.
He wanted to have his car washed. He didn't want to do it himself.

O verbo SET não mudo de forma, do infinitivo para o particípio, como nesses casos:

Set --> set
Paint --> painted
Wash --> washed
