Significado de "lint"

Oi pessoal!

Estou quebrando a cabeça aqui pra traduzir termo lint neste contexto específico. É um trecho de uma palestra:

"And that year I'd given up gossip for lint. (audience laughing) Yeah, I did because... I thought it was good, I thought it was a good thing to give up for lint. (audience laughing)"

Eu pensei que talvez possa ser algo como:
"E naquele ano eu tinha desistido de fazer fofoca por bobagem/besteira"
