Start x Begin: Qual utilizar

Você pode usar START na maioria das situações. No entanto, existem alguns casos onde não é possível . Estas incluem:

"start working" ou "My computer won't start." Você não pode usar BEGIN para falar de uma máquina em funcionamento.

"make something start" ou "How do you start this car?"

"start a journey" "Let's start early before the traffic builds up."

Por outro lado, alguém a aprender um novo tema é um BEGINNER , não um STARTER

Por outro lado, as duas palavras tem o mesmo significado, e gramaticalmente pode ser usadas da mesma forma

START muitas vezes tem um significado mecânico ou automático e BEGIN envolve um sentimento humano

Ex. The car starts...
The movie starts at seven
The christmas season begins...
It is beginning to look a lot like christmas

Begin is more formal in kind.

Begin - is also usual the elaborating further, we will begin the reading/the lesson etc.
For instance, the Stack Exchange site has the following example:
I must begin the novel.
I must begin writing the novel
I must begin reading the novel.

So, the first sentence would be ambiguous somehow, with "writing" or "reading" add full meaning to it.

Could be "today we are going to start chapter 2/today we are going to study chapter 2".
Many would use "today we are going to begin reading (studying, etc) chapter 2."

I didn't rule out the interchangeable use, the last one sounds more formal, to my thinking. But you wouldn't be sued for it.

Para dizer "vamos começar ou vamos iniciar a unidade 2." Seria melhor "We'll start unit 2 or begin unite 2?" ou os dois podem?

Melhor seria então "Let's begin the unit 2"? Sendo mais formal? Ou se não quiser ser formal posso falar Let's start the Unit 2?
