Stay: Como utilizar

I saw that usually use 'getting'..

O verbo "to stay" (ficar, permanecer, estar, continuar, etc...) é usado das seguintes formas:

1 permanecer em algum lugar
Ex:
stay in (ficar em casa)
what hotel are you staying at? (em que hotel você está?)

2 permanecer em uma ação, estado ou fenômeno constante.
Ex:
stay up (ficar acordado)

3 Pode haver algumas excessões, mas ainda desconheço.

Quando dizemos ficar em português significando tornar-se ou estar ficando..., não podemos usar stay.
Ex: she is getting slim (ela está ficando magrinha) sentido "esbelto"

Acompanhando o que já foi dito, atenção aos significados diferenciados:

"I´m getting sick." = Estou ficando doente

"If you keep getting up, you´re going to stay sick longer." = Se vc ficar se levantando, continuará doente por mais tempo.

"I´m getting slimmer" = Estou emagrecendo.

"I´m staying slim." = Continuo magro.

a)She´s becoming a pretty girl.
b)We´re running out of money.

Become=Tornar-se
Run out of:Ficar sem algo,esgotar

Yes,

"They ran out of money".(Eles ficaram sem dinheiro,o dinheiro deles acabou.)

She was happy that I had been there.
She was happy that I was there.

Get e become seriam opções para este caso,mas com este tempo verbal acho mais natural "was".
Ex:We get happy when they call us.(Ficamos felizes quando nos ligam.)
