Hi folks,
Here in Goiás this verb(cotar) is used by business people refering to something like an auction, this verb also refers to going to a lot of places in order to find out the lowest prices.Survey is a general way of expressing both situations,Tim´s suggestions seem more specific to me.
All the best!

Hi Donay,
Thanks for the tip.
I am learning quite a bit of Portuguese (and quite a bit of English too
) from my visits to the Forum.
My expressions are certainly not appropriate to an auction situation.
Maybe we should start a new topic about auctions. It could generate some interesting vocabulary.

Hi Tim,
Actually,I thought of suggesting "quote" and "estimate" but it seemed a bit too distant from "cotação".Anyway, now I know it makes sense.
