washing out mouth with soap:
Washing out mouth with soap is a form of corporal punishment usually given to children for cursing (using profanity), lying and for talking back and is symbolic of cleansing out a dirty mouth. It is done by placing a bar of soap (or liquid soap or dish washing liquid in the absence of bar soap) in a person's mouth or using a toothbrush to brush their teeth and mouth with soap. It was commonly used throughout the 1950s and 1960s but has decreased since then. It still has many advocates today and is used by many parents. This punishment is most prevalent in the USA.
