Usa-se também "swallow the bait". "Rise to the bait" é mais comum em British English, "take the bait" e "swallow the bait" tanto em American quanto em British.

Wait until the fish takes the bait.

In American English, I think it's more common to say
"He took the bait...."
Also,
"He went for it", "He fell for it", "He fell for it hook line and sinker!"
"He took the bait...."
Also,
