I thought that you of all civilized adults knew that fight solves nothing.

I thought that you would act your age/were grown ups and would not try to solve your problems by way of fighting/by force.

So, it´s this way you express your care/love (if it´s said to a grown up, or the child has built up some vocab you cay say "your affection") to your little brother?/to your brother?
By sticking the finger in his eye?
