It seems to me that, in order to have a good parallel construction, if "neither" is modifying a verb then so should "nor." Likewise, if "neither" is modifying a noun, so should "nor." So I might opt for something like

I neither understand nor worry about either ancient or modern history.
I understand neither ancient nor modern history.
I don't understand either ancient or modern history.

What do you think?

Having employed "neither," you're probably better off completing with "nor." It's the expected parallelism in English -- that is, one knows equally as little of one as of the other. "Let alone" implies knowing even less of something than of something else:

I don't do much math, let alone accounting. = I know little of math, and even less of accounting.
