I didn´t use the word "budget", but I assume, of course, that inflation rends a role in the purse that is increasingly difficult to mend. Unless one has a bottomless pocket.

If you use the verb ''weight'' along with the noun ''budget'', it may sound a little weird to me, nevertheless, there's such an interesting expression which is ''to be on a tigh budget'' that could help a lot in this case.
''Household cost/expenses is/are leaving people on a tight budget'' (O custo da moradia está deixando as pessoas em um orçamento pesado''.

My suggestion

O custo com moradia está começando a pesar no orçamento.
the cost of dwelling is beginning to weigh in the family budget

E os verbos "to overload" e "to overburden"?
