Como dizer "tomar sol" em inglês

Essa semana, duas de minhas alunas estavam bronzeadas e queria ter perguntado "Vocês tomaram sol?". Porém, fiquei na dúvida em como dizer. Pesquisei aqui no fórum e encontrei "sunbathe", para "tomar banho de sol", mas quero dizer só "tomar sol".

Bom, se for apenas "ficar no sol" de uma forma geral, recomendo usar "Did you stay out in the sun?"
Sunbathe equivale a ficar no sol para se bronzear.
Sunbathe: to sit or lie outside in the sun, especially in order to become brown.

Soak up the sun
No sentido literal, "soak up" significa absorver, mas nesse caso podemos traduzir como "tomar sol".
Exemplo: "We went to the beach and soaked up the sun/sunshine all afternoon."

A melhor tradução para "Tomar sol" no sentido de só sair de casa para tomar um solzinho gostoso, é "to bask in the sun".
É um termo que não expressa ficar moreno, ou largado no sol, mas no sentido de disfrutar o calor do sol:

The part inside parentheses suggests you ask if it was on the beach, meaning "I guess" or 'it's my guess/I wonder". Because someone working outside could also get a tan or just by going outside in the summer for a while.
