Nesta pandemia, a maioria das pessoas nas ruas usa a máscara no queixo, abaixada. Não adianta nada, piora.

During this pandemic, most people on the streets pull their masks under the chin (or nose). This defeats the purpose and gives a false sense of security [1] This dismissiveness only prolongs the crisis/the pandemic.
[1] or it shows some people are in denial. By the way, I learned that many die in denial.
There are other ways to express that, let´s wait for further comments.
