Qual é a diferença entre Tribute e Homage?

I consider those words as synonyms, however, there is a slightly difference.
Historically, they were utterly different. Tribute was material wealth paid to a conqueror or ruler by the conquered or subjects. Homage was the act of showing deference to a ruler or conqueror.
I see the difference between tribute and homage is related to how much you want to show respect to someone and how much those words are used.
Homage is to do something in remembrance of someone or something and the word is used when we are trying to show the absolute highest amount of respect for someone. Tribute implies on gifting something.
Regardless of the situation, I am more used to listen to the word tribute nowadays while homage is found in Literature or medieval tales.
