Usamos "inservice" tb com o significado de "treinamento" ou "treino" de empregados. O treino pode (ou não) ocorrer na hora de trabalho, no local ou fora, etc. É um jeito curto de dizer "inservice training"

complementing Henry's post, some days throughout the school year there are "inservice days" where the kids don't have class.
Also, a machine or object can be "Not In Service" like a bus, a vending machine, a taxi, etc., simply meaning that it is not currently operating.
