It would have been clearer if the text had added "with excitement":

Fans of ‘Harry Potter’ will be reeling (with excitement) today...

The idea is that they would be very, very excited, ...their minds spinning with excitement and anticipation. So on one hand you could say "muito animados" or to exaggerate the excitement you could say "enlouquecidos de antecipação" ...?
