Como dizer "Pessoa culta" em inglês

I was talking to a friend on Facebook, he is not an american or British, and It happened that he said that "someone is very cult", seems to be actually because he was talking about me . And making research on internet I've found that the term "Cult" couldn't be used in this sense. It refers to either a religious meeting or a popular thing. And I wonder something "cultural" would be said in portuguese. So I would like to ask what do you guys suggest for "Pessoa culta", that is, that likes reading, literature, enjoys politeness, speaks in difficult ways.
