Hello friends, I couldn't understand exactly this sentence, the use of "being that " seems a little confuse to me!
Being that they didn't vote as the public believed they would, a relatively obscure film walked away with the event's top honor!
I imagine it can be the same as: ( Já que... )
But I know this structure " já que " as " since "
I really do not know whether I'm right or not, but you can help me and i'm sure of it!!!

"Being that" é uma expressão não muito comum em inglês, sinônimo de "since","because".
"Being that they didn't vote as the public believed they would, a relatively obscure film walked away with the event's top honor!"
"Já que eles não votaram como o público acreditava que iriam,um filme relativamente obscuro saiu do evento com a maior honraria/premiação."
