"Conseguir" nao tem uma traduçao 100% boa.

Usaria os verbos "manage" ou "do" dependendo da situaçao.

"I managed to read my first long text in English" or "I did it! I've read my first long text in English"

I just finished reading my first text in English.
I just read my first text in English.
I finally finished reading my first text in English.
I finally read my first text in English.
I finished reading my first text in English.

Acho que procura na tradução algo que não existe na frase em português.

Se quiser enfatizar o ato de conseguir que tal usar "succeed"?

Tipo: I succeeded on reading my first text in English.

sugestão: I finally got to read my first text in English

I finally got to read my first text in English (This means "I was finally permitted to read my first text in English." Not a good choice.)

"I was able to" is not clear. Did you get permission from someone? Was something prohibiting you from reading it before?

Maybe... I finally succeeded in reading my my first text in English. ("Book" or "novel" would be a better choice than "text". "Text" is very formal and can be confused with "textbook", a book used to teach a subject in school/college.) "Succeeded" certainly conveys the idea or image of "success", of achievement. I think this is a much better choice than the earlier suggestions I made.
