"Appealing" não é apelar ou apelando, mas sim um ajetivo que significa atraente.

Por exemplo: "That vista is appealing for the eye"

Para dizer "apelar" pode-se usar:

1) "to turn to somebody" (apelando algo para alguém): "When in difficult, he turns to his friends."
2) "to resort to violence" (apelar para a violência/ignorância): "He always resort to violence"

Update: Recebi uma correção do Henry Cunha dizendo que "appeal" pode sim significar "apelo".

Por exemplo, a Corte de 2da instância em Ontario se chama The Court of Appeals.

Pelo que entedi o "appealing" pode ser "apelar" no sentido de suplica, não é isso?
Ou seja, o caso de "apelar" significando "raiva" já cai por terra, certo ?
