There are several possibilities, all with slightly different meanings:

to forget
to free (oneself) from
to be exempt from
to get away from
to be done with


"Your actions (behaviour, attitude ) show (tell me, demonstrate) that you want to free yourself from everything that happened."

Ou somente qdo se trata de algo mais "físico"?

Yeah, Flávia it conveys the same sense. Although you might want to use "to be rid of," which seems to me to be what is more commonly said re feelings (about), or memories (of), or mental involvement in a particular situation.

mas por que vc quase sempre os responde em inglês?
Acredito que isso dificulta um pouco para quem nao tem um determinado nível de linguagem q possa acompanha-los com um bom entendimento final..Como acontece aqui neste mesmo post...

* se posso usar "to be rid of", porque é exatamente o que eu quis dizer( emocional involement) no contexto das frases q postei inicialmente.
entao ainda nao sei se posso usar 'TO BE RID OF FROM EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED"..

Boa pergunta! Não fui contar, mas acho que respondo em português tb de vez em quando... Geralmente faço uma estimativa, baseada na pergunta, do nível de inglês da pessoa, e ai respondo ou numa ou noutra lingua. Neste caso, por exemplo, veio de alguem que eu já sei fala bastante inglês. Mas estarei sempre pronto a traduzir, basta dizer que não entendeu, como vc fez agora.

A minha outra razão é que acho que não devo mastigar demais. Tento providenciar, pelo minha contribuição, mais modelos de como se comunica em inglês. Acho que isso beneficia a todos.

Mas, como disse, posso sempre traduzir.

Pode-se usar o verbo frasal "root out" dentro do contexto de "livrar-se de alguém". Exemplo extraído de um filme policial "Karl's task was to root them out, whatever it took": Karl tinha a missão de se livrar deles, a qualquer preço.

I would also mention, if I may, that "root out" usually has a ring of "getting hid" of a harmful or dangerous person or thing.
To things - you can root ouf weeds in the garden.
These days politicians are rooting out corruption.

Root out somene could be in the sense of removing or getting rid. In the sense of being put to death is less frequently used, but you can find something like
."...Such precision suggests an internal split, in which a few select targets are being rooted out; a rival gang..."

So, Karl's task could be that of cleaning the streets and get rid of all dangerous elements, perhaps some would get rooted out in the sense of pushing daisies. Hazards of office.
