Projeto Conversação - Parte 3
Hi people!!!
I would like to ask that who posts videos here speaks louder, because some videos I can't listen what it said, even I turn up the volume of my computer.
So, thank you people!!! Soon, I will put my video here, I'm preparing it yet.
P.S. If someone observing something wrong what I wrote above or now, please, correct me!! XD

Hi Yagoag
I have just watched your video and I reckon that your English is super!
To me, there is no suggestion for improvement as I could not notice any slip-up (maybe when you mention vacations with an "s" which is not really major) - good job
I want to make a video soon too!
Cheers

Hi All!
I finally contrived to come up with an audio file (sorry, but I am "technologically challenged" and could not come up with a video on you tube
)
I work as a receptionist and decided to record an audio file on customer service (
). The audio quality is a bit poor and I think you guys will not make out what I am saying at times , but that's something for a start. I tried to talk about the importance of knowing a bit more of the vast array of English names; the importance of speaking slowly and also some techniques (such as repetition and paraphrasing) to ensure that you have understood the speaker on the phone or in person.
To finish off, I mentioned how important it is for learners to strike a balance in order to learn English effectively. Speaking is important, however writing and grammar are paramount to obtain good results.
I also would like to come up with something on Australian English later on...

Hi Lucas,
Thanks for the comment. I am so used to the way people speak English here that I hardly notice how Australians or those who speak Australian English tend to sound a bit "different". When I started to study English - guess what? It was American English! Mind you, when one starts to live in another country - as time passes by they generally develop a wish (conscious or unconscious) to sound more like the locals and that's how it all begins...When you realise, you have already grasped the main features of the accent.
When I get a chance, I intend to come up with an audio file on the Aussie English, including some "lingo" and slang terms etc.
Cheers

Hi guys
I believe that in order for this project to make headway it is necessary for members not only to pay compliments, but also to seek to give valuable feedback in regards to mistakes made by participants, as well as suggestions for improvement and so on.
It seems to me that what's happening is that a few members will post videos and afterwards other members will make comments such as very good, excellent, amazing etc - yet with no suggestion that can add value to the contribution made
So let me get the ball rolling...
Gui, your pronunciation is great and if you don't mind I will give you some tips
1. basic should be pronounced something like /beissic/. Because in English some words with an "s" will be pronounced as if they had a "ss", instead of a "z" sound. Another example would be the word "gasoline", which should be pronounced as /gassoline/ instead of /gazoline/.
I could be wrong, but I think this has been discussed in this same thread.
2. When you say "on internet", a better way to say this would be "on the internet" (nothing major, anyway).
Good work Gui! It is no easy job to study one's own (we're in the same boat lol).
Cheers

Hi Dlr
Thanks for the comment. You hit the nail on the head! I live in Australia, but I am pretty sure I mentioned that on my audio file...
I always have a good time when locals ask me where I come from...It goes something like this:
- Q: Where are you from?
- Carol: (Creating some suspense...) Where do you think I am from?
- Q: I have no idea! (while checking me out...After all, features such as skin colour, height can help the answer...)
-Carol: Come on! Have a guess!
Result: Approximately...
20% will say America
20% will say New Zealand
50% will say I have no idea...Somewhere in America? South America?
8% will say Other countries (South Africa etc).
2% will say Somewhere in Australia
For all those who are interested in learning a bit more about the Australian English, I tried to summarise the main features of the "Aussie lingo" below:
1. Rising intonation (slightly) at the end of sentences (even if it is NOT a question)
2. Vowels are pronounced in a very relaxed manner. No word is as articulated as in American English
3. There is a slang term for everything (!). For example, afternoon becomes "arvo", Compensation becomes "compo", Language "Lingo", right becomes "righto" (right + o) and so on...
"All right" can also become "allrightieeeee" lol
4. Instead of saying "guy", just say "bloke".
5. Saying "Cheers" or "Ta" instead of "Thank you" and "No worries" instead of "you're welcome or not at all".
However, these are just some ordinary examples. I still intend to go into a bit more detail by means of an audio file when I get a chance
Cheers!

Hey folks, please help, I could not do an account on mypodcast and therefore, didn´t sent audio there.

Obs:
- I have some difficult to say the word "Expect".
http://www.forvo.com/word/expect#en
- How knowledge ... Is that right ?
No, but if you write what you want to say in portuguese we can think of a better phrase.
By the way, all of the videos that have been posted recently are fantastic!

pakuista I really liked your video because of the very end: 'see you later alligator! see you in a while crocodile!' (I always said 'after a while, crocodile!'). When I was younger, me and my grandmother used to say that. It reminds me of something similar in Spanish that I learned many years ago 'qué te pasa, calabaza? nada nada, limonada!'
Awesome Cristiano! I like to move it move it... hahahaha
You're right, the 'c' in muscle sounds like an 's'.angelica nascimento escreveu:I have a doubt, in Cristiano's video he said the word muscle, could someone tell me if his pronunciation is correct?

rafael overall your pronunciation is outstanding, but I can think of 2 things for you to practice. First, the sound 'th', which is something that most Brazilians have a hard time with. And the second is words that end with 'ed'. I'll post a link that I've posted in other threads to help with any pronunciation doubts - www.forvo.com
Good job!
Good job!
DHST, your pronunciation is exceptional! I know Brazilians that have lived in the US for many years and your pronunciation is much much better than theirs. Of course, some words could be better, but overall A+.
I'll try to write the words the way they sound to give you an idea of how to improve, but it might not be exact.
Word: You said -> You should say
used: iusséd -> iúzd , try not to pronounce the e
accent: éccÉnt -> Éccént , make sure to stress the a
would: prounce the 'w' more
nationality: nacionality -> nachionality
basic: bêsic -> bêssic , /s/ not /z/
vocabulary: voquebuláry -> voquÉbiuléry
limited: limíted -> límited , you pronounce the 'i' correct but stress the wrong one
equivalent: equivalent -> eqüivalent
slow/strong - I can't really describe how to improve these
I wrote a lot about how you can improve, but don't worry because your errors are almost non-existent. Seriously, if you keep your pronunciation but talk faster, you would almost be a native speaker! You have the most natural sounding American accent I've heard from a Brazilian.

carol you must live in Australia or New Zealand.. I can't tell those accents apart, but it's got to be one of them. Are you sure you're Brazilian? I've gotten pretty good at identifying Brazilians speaking English but I've never heard one with such a clear Aussie/NZ accent, and to be honest I thought you might be a native speaker.
