Alguns minutos atrás ouvi minha irmã dizendo:

don't forget about the transference (neste sentido ----> $$$)

e então amigos?

Daniel, as you may know I work in the finance area, and I never heard "transference" when related to money.

Money transfer
Credit transfer
Wire transfer

always transfer

But, the fact that I never heard doesn't mean that it doesn't exist! Let's wait for the colleagues' comments.

I just found this:

The word transference, in essence, does mean the act or process of transferring (same as transfer) but it is only used in a psychoanalysis: the process by which emotions and desires originally associated with one person, such as a parent or sibling, are unconsciously shifted to another person, especially to the analyst. It wouldn't be accurate to use it in your example above.

The complete (and very interesting) thread can be read at: http://www.ajarnforum.net/vb/the-classr ... nsfer.html

Congrats for your "feeling" that the term was not that common (or not that correct)

We deserve a topic about that in the "Falsos Cognatos" section, don't we?

This is one of the cases in which English deploys still a third option: transferral (also spelled transferal). The meaning is practically identical to transfer, as far as I can tell.

Another word with similar characteristics: refer - reference - referral. Referral is used most widely, I think, in medicine (such as when your family doctors refers you to a specialist, he is making a referral). It's probably also used in court cases referred to a higher level.

One more: transmit - transmission - transmittal. Transmittal seems to function only as an adjective, however.

I can't think of any other examples. But there must be more.
