Concordo com você. Acredito na possibilidade de "data on" e "data from" até mesmo no mesmo texto.

Neste caso eu acho que podem ser usado ambos, elas parecem fazer o mesmo sentido mas eu prefiro "Data From". Vejam:

"The set consists of [the] data from Brazilian students." ["dos dados" sugere "todos os dados"= the data]
