The court reached a verdict on the 12th day of trial.
I never saw a judge "reaching a verdict". The kind of lawsuit or proceeding which reaches a verdict needs a installed court or jurors. So, normally, a court reaches a verdict or jurors reach a verdict. But, once there are lots of different legal systems, it is possible that a judge would reach a verdict in some of them as well.
Another technical issue is that a verdict (reached by jurors) must be confirmed by the judge.
It´s also used the Latin form "veredictum".
