As a college student, we need to improve our writing skill to suit it in the academic model. Reading Swales & Feak, we can learn many tips to make a good work, as be more objective and use a formal structure. After this reading, we can understand that Academic writing is not complicated, but is complex. It needs to be relatively easy to follow, that is, written in a clear and direct style.
The strategies also are very important to a good academic writing work. Know the audience, the purpose and where it will be published help us and can never be forgotten in the process. Swales & Feak made a great material about academic writing that every student would read, in order to improve their writing skill.
Every English’s teacher has a great challenge into a classroom: teach English as a foreign language. Develop the four most important skills is necessary to improve the fluency in the language, but when you have no abilities about what you are teaching, this experience will be bad. Find the ideal approach is what we need in teaching writing, and we need to do a hard work to figure it out.
Another good point is how “scared” the students are of writing. There are many myths about the process of writing in English language and it makes more difficult all the process. As teachers, we need to kill these “ghosts” and show them how simple is making a text. Therefore, basically, teaching writing is difficult, but not impossible.
