Marcia, utilizamos o infinitivo nestes tempos verbais, nas duas línguas:
Eu posso estar = I can be
Eu não posso estar = I cannot be

Minha xará, native speakers of English might have writen, "I wrote wrongly". Or "... wrote it incorrectly".
