Appreciation tem sentido de valorização, em termos econômicos.

"Brazilian Real is appreciated against US dollar" (O Real está valorizado frente ao dólar americano)

Cuidado aqui pessoal. Vejam no Google, por exemplo,

"an appreciation of this problem" ou
"judicial appreciation"

É usado em inglês tb, com o mesmo significado do português.

Along with the word "appreciation" meaning assessment, comes the much-used term précis, or summary: the "precise," "concise" statement of an issue, problem, or solution. Another French word that English adopted was "apperçu," meaning "apercepção" ou "apanhado."

So in a deeper sense "to appreciate," means to have a good perception of something, and when you say to somebody "I appreciate what you did," it really means more than "I thank you": it means "I´m aware, conscious of what you did."

And in common use, when you want to indicate awareness of an aspect of an issue, for instance, you'd say "Yes, I appreciate that but my concern is in another area."

It's a great expression to have ready for use!
