Como dizer "Você fala inglês?" em inglês

Tanto faz "do you speak English?" quanto "can you speak English?", para perguntar se alguém "fala inglês" (consegue falar inglês), por exemplo, em um país onde o inglês não é a língua nativa, como Egito, México, etc.
Fica a dica.

Do you speak English? would be more natural to me.
I mean, I think this question it´s almost a knee-jerk reaction when one meet a stranger in another country .
But if you asked with CAN no one would sue you for it.
But there are other nuances to it. Namely:
Do you speak English?
it means the asker wants to know whether you speak English in your daily activity.
(native speaker)
Can you speak English?
it means the asker wants to know whether you can speak English.
Also the first have a ring of dayly activity, whereas the second slightly denotes the ability of speaking English, albeit as the UsingEnglish discussion points out, without much context " One doesn't speak English if one can't speak English"

That´s more, depending on the situation/context "do you speak English?" sounds more polite. Of course if you know a friend, or if you are asking to someone from your clique, he/her won´t find it impolite. Friends are friends!
