Falsos Cognatos: Compromise
The noun COMPROMISE has nothing to do with "compromisso", in the meaning of social obligation. This word can be translated as "concessão". "entendimento", "conciliação" ou "transação" (here, a law concept meaning an agreement in which both parties make concessions). The verb "TO COMPROMISE" can be translated as "comprometer", but meaning expose to danger or to a suspiscious. "TO COMPROMISE" and "TO JEOPARDIZE" are synonymous. For "compromisso", in English, use the words "APPOINTMENT" (the schedule you organized for classes, meetings, consultations etc.) or "COMMITMENT" (promise, pact).
