Audit x Auditing: Qual a diferença?

Complementando a resposta do Redseahorse, há ainda o uso de gerund, como no exemplo:

Auditing is an important task in our schedule this month.

Nesse caso "auditing" seria uma substantivação do verbo "to audit", ou seja, "o ato de auditar".

As duas palavras podem um verbo ou um substântivo. É preciso diferencia-los no caso específico, contextualmente se for o caso.

An audit of water use (noun);
Why should the auditing review be left to an informal process? (noun);
He audited the accounts (verb);
They were auditing the accounts (verb);
Anthony audits Marcus' accounts occasionaly (verb).
