You can just say:
Pretend
Pretend that you are rich for a day....
Pretend
Pretend that you are rich for a day....
I agree with Lu, It'd be better to use " pretend ".
make believe
to pretend that something is real, especially in a game
The children like to make believe that they live in a castle.

Exatamente,
seria "imaginar"
now make believe you are a native english speaker rsrsrsrsrs!

POWER QUESTIONS
Actually, Murilo, "pretend" can be used in this context. I just wanted to say that there's no "better" or "worse" option, just different ways to express the same idea.
hmmmmm I will keep that thought, because "pretend" means something "more serious",
a child won't probably say: " hmmm pretend you're a doll...." meaning " imagine you're a doll"
all in all "pretend" works somehow, but with a distinct meaning from "make believe" it'll depend on the case, look:
we can't pretend that everything is ok
we can't make believe that everything is ok
both express the same idea in that case^^ but in other cases, no, just a little more distinct ;P
Thank you

There is no real difference between the two. The word pretend is not more serious or had a stronger meaning that make believe.
Small kids in UK would say: Let's pretend we are flying. as a normal course of their speech.
It is a commonly used word. I think American kids would not use it as much and would use more make believe.

great, you got it^^
NA kids will also say "let`s pretend" in an intentional suspension of realism.

pedofilos dizem: let's pretend"
crianças dizem: " let's make believe"
outros exemplos:
pretend you are a money- finja q vc é um macaco ( ande como um macaco, faças os mesmos atos que um macaco)
make believe you're a money- faz de conta q vc é um macado (ok, estou em uma arvore comendo bananas blablabla)
pretend he doesn't exist
make believe he doesn't exist
Obrigado

I am American and grew up saying "Let's pretend..."Lu Interact escreveu:There is no real difference between the two. The word pretend is not more serious or had a stronger meaning that make believe.

We never said "make believe." It is more literary (in fairytales etc.)
"Make-believing we're together
That I'm sheltered by your heart
In and outside I turn to water
Like a teardrop in your palm
And it's a hard winter's day
I dream away..."
extract from "It must have been love", Roxette
