(Minto.)
She was 79, no, I tell a lie, 76. (Ela tinha 79. Não, minto, 76.)
Bons estudos.

Uma expressão muito frequente em inglês é: I did'nt mean it..
- Women shouldn't drive cars.
- Really?
- Oh, no! I didn't mean it. Some women shouldn't drive cars.

Hi People,
Don´t get me wrong, I have no real expertise on the subject of lies, but once in a while I use the expression
"I would be lying if said to you that ... ."
Do note, it´s clearly a hypothetical situation. It can be a nice way to make someone do a "reality check," as in:
"I´d be lying (to you) if I said I agree with what you have in mind."
For the kinds of accidental mistakes Donay was alluding to, I seem to like
"..., no, let me correct myself, ... ."
Regards

Oi Henry,

They don´t lie, they mispeak:
"I perhaps mispoke when I said I had no foreign bank accounts. What I probably should have said is that I have no recollection of ever having had any role in setting up all these accounts you found, even if they seem to be in my name and even if these appear to be my signatures, which most likely could be forgeries."
The verb "to mispeak" can be used at any time, under any circumstances, and in any mood you choose. It bridges a necessary gap in the distance between truth and mendacity. It is useful beyond belief.
Cheers!
