Creio que a melhor opção seja o "up to" sim, porém ele necessita de complemento. Veja que mesmo em Pt esse complemento tá implícito, ainda que oculto.

O bebê fez caca, agora sobrou pro pai (limpar a caca!)

... now it's up to Serra to handle all this mess;
... it's up to the father to clean the "caca";
... I'm so tired because now it's up to me to do all the job (alone).

My suggestion:

To be left holding the baby.

You will also hear "it fell to..."

"...it fell to the father to clean it up."
